Benefits of Personality Tests A few things that knowing your personality type might help with: Better Understand Other People After taking the MBTI and seeing your results, you might have a better understanding of all the different reactions and perceptions that other people might have to the same situations. We all have a different way of seeing and interacting with the world. No personality type is better than any otherâ€"just different. And each perspective brings something new and interesting to the table.   People often fall into the trap of mistakenly believing that most other people share the same views, opinions, attitudes, and traits that they do. Having your own personal preferences highlighted and being able to glimpse at some of the traits that other people possess can be an eye-opener for many.   Understanding some of your core personality traits as well as those of the people you are close to is also helpful in relationships. If, for example, you are an extrovert but your spouse is more of an introvert, you will be better able to spot the signs that your partner is getting exhausted and needs to take a break from socializing. By better knowing each others personality traits, you can better respond to the needs of your loved ones and build stronger partnerships. Identify Your Likes and Dislikes Maybe you have always hated talking on the phone, but never really understood why. Or perhaps youve always needed a little extra time to think about a problem before making a decision. By learning more about where you lie on the extroversion/introversion and thinking/feeling continuums, you might be better able to understand why you prefer certain things and dislike others. This can come in handy when you are trying to make important decisions that might have an impact on the course of your life, such as choosing a college major. Selecting a major and profession that is well-aligned with your personal preferences might mean that you end up being happier and more satisfied with your choice and your work in the long run. Understand Which Situations Allow You to Perform Your Best Learning more about your personality type can also help you discover new ways to approach problems. If you discover that you tend to be high on introversion, you might take care in the future to give yourself plenty of time to become comfortable in a situation before you introduce yourself to a new co-worker, for example. Knowing what might work best for your type can give you new ideas on how to solve problems, deal with stress, cope with conflict, and manage your work habits. You Can Better Understand Your Strengths and Weaknesses Knowing what you are good at can be important in a wide variety of situations, whether you are picking a college major or thinking about running for a seat on your local school board. Personality tests and quizzes can be informative, fun, and helpful, but even the most serious psychological assessments are never the end-all, be-all when it comes to evaluating who you are, what you can accomplish, how you might perform in certain situations, and who you might become in the future.   Some reasons why you might not want to take the results of all these personality quizzes too seriously: Knowing your type may  not tell you if you will love a particular career or succeed at your job:  Taking a personality quiz or assessment might give you a better idea of which areas appeal to you, but there is a big difference between being interested in a particular field and enjoying the actual work. A personality inventory might indicate that you would make a great accountant, but you might find the work boring and unfulfilling.  Clinging to ideas about what you are and are not can keep you from trying new things:  For example, an extrovert might reject things that are typically billed as solitary or quiet activities. This can lead to missing out on experiences that you might learn from or truly enjoy. You might even miss out on meeting interesting people because they do not seem to share the same traits or interests as you do. Try not to get too hung up on labeling different aspects of your personality or dismissing things that seem like they would not be a good fit for someone w ith your type.Placing too much emphasis on your personality type can keep you from forming authentic relationships with others:  Clinging hard and fast to ideas about what your personality type is can make it easy to reject other people who dont seem to have the same type as you are. But that is a mistake because even though many of these people might have different ideas and approaches to life, you can still learn a great deal from them. Excluding certain people from your life can lead to a restricted social circle that only seems to reinforce the ideas you already hold. From Sports Broadcasting to the Business Side of Media via NYU Stern

This interview is the latest in an Accepted blog series featuring  interviews with MBA students, offering readers a behind-the-scenes look at top MBA programs. And now for a chat with a second year MBA student at NYU Stern, Danny Breslauer. Accepted: Wed like to get to know you! Where are you from? Where and what did you study as an undergrad? Danny: I am from Highland Park, New Jersey. It is a 1.8-square-mile town in central NJ right across the bridge from New Brunswick. I made the journey over the bridge for my undergraduate degree at Rutgers University. I was a double major in Journalism/Media Studies Psychology, and the General Manager and Sports Director of WRSU-FM, Rutgers’ student-run, on-campus radio station. Accepted: Whats your favorite non-school book? Danny: I  think Moneyball is one of the best books of all-time. I’m a huge Michael Lewis fan and a sports junkie, so that book got my attention right after its release. Accepted: Can you share a favorite quote that inspires you? Danny: â€Å"Don’t give up†¦ Don’t ever give up† – Jim Valvano (1993) Accepted: Where are you currently attending business school? What year are you? Danny: I am an MBA2 at NYU Stern School of Business in New York City. Accepted: What is your favorite thing about the NYU Stern MBA program? Danny: Stern is an incredible place. It may sound clichà ©, but my favorite thing about the program is my classmates. I have made friends and trusted colleagues for life in a little over a year’s time. That’s very difficult to do. I give a lot of credit to Stern’s admissions team for putting together an awesome and diverse class. Accepted: What was the hardest part of  the application process? Any challenges or successes youd like to share? Danny: Historically, I was an average standardized tester†¦ and below average if you matched up the scores to my grades in school. So, the GMAT was easily the hardest part of the application process for me. I worked with a personal tutor for dozens of hours and improved my score by more than 100 points. I think I was successful in an important part of the application process, which is keeping your story consistent and viable across all elements (essays, interviews, recommendations, etc.). A family friend with an MBA told me very early on in the process that top business schools are not looking for fresh starts. They want to see direction and conviction. I brought that to the table and I’m thankful that Stern understood my story. Accepted: You work in the media industry! Youre a successful sports broadcaster, and were previously named the No. 8 collegiate sportscaster in the nation! How has this work prepared you for completing your MBA? Danny: Working in the sports industry is like working in any sector of business. You work in teams and groups, like in any job and every MBA program. It’s all about maintaining genuine relationships and surrounding yourself with professionals who play the game of life in the most honorable and successful fashion possible. I was blessed to chase my sportscasting dream in the early years of my career and reached a lot of my goals. I was the voice of a Division 1 college program at 26 years old and on multiple producers’ lists for play-by-play talent across 12 sports for radio, television and OTT. I had an amazing time every day, but I reached a point in my life when it was time for a change in function and lifestyle. Accepted: Do you have any idea what field youd like to work in after graduation? Danny: Media is my passion. I’m pivoting from the on-air side of the industry to a strategic advisory and business development role, and so far have used MBA internships at Wasserman and NBCUniversal to prepare me for life after Stern. During my MBA2 full-time job recruitment process, I will be targeting companies that are at the intersection of the businesses of broadcast media, technology and sports. Through out time, young sheep have always been described as pure, tender, and innocent. Even in the Holy Bible, lambs are talked about in such high honor that they were even used to be holy sacrifices during biblical times. William Blake describes the young sheep in similar characteristics in the poem â€Å"The Lamb† and â€Å"The Tyger†. A tiger as we know its characteristics to be is fierce and mysterious. Always lurking around, waiting for the perfect opportunity to strike. In William Blake’s two separate poems he ties each of the poems together with in-depth understanding and symbolism. Both animals play an important part in both of Blake’s poems. The use of the lamb in William Blake’s poem is significant in many ways. The speaker is depicted as being young and a child however, is not actually a child at all. He is described as a child but really meaning that he is a child of God. Just like the lamb, the speaker has religious background as well due to the fact that the speaker is more then likely a Shepard watching over the sheep just like how Joseph was a Shepard in the bible. I. Abstract Brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) is known to increase synaptic efficacy and promote neuronal survival. This protein is also a biomarker for impaired general cognitive function and memory. Studies have bee conducted on mice measuring the concentration of circulating, also called plasma or serum, BDNF in the blood of these animals when they exercise. Exercise has been proven to increase cognitive function and links between a large level of BDNF in the bloodstream and improved results on spatial/ cognitive testing of these rats shows that BDNF correlates to an increase in memory and cognitive abilities. In this research, studies with varying results on BDNF and exercise were taken and summarized in hopes of finding a†¦show more content†¦This protein circulates throughout the central nervous system and the concentrations can be measured in platelets (Corripio, Gà ³nzalez-Clemente, Jacobo, Silvia, Lluis, Joan, Assumpta, 2012). BDNF neurotrophins bind with hi gh affinity to its respective receptor, TrkB. These signals flow to other protein enzymes downstream of that where they regulate synaptic functioning and maintain cell viability (Tadahiro, Richards, Shingo, Naoki, Miyako, Haruki, Xin, 2014). Studies performed on rats show a crucial link between BDNF release and memory/ cognitive functioning. After two months on an HFS diet (high amounts of refined sugars and fats) the hippocampal level of BDNF and spatial learning performance in these rats was noticeable reduced. Diet-related changes were specific to the hippocampus because of its role in memory formation and that is one of the main places BDNF is produced and circulates (Molteni, Barnard, Ying, Roberts, Gà ³mez-Pinilla, 2002). These decreased cognitive functions cooresponded to a decreased amount of BDNF measured in the blood stream. It is also well documented through research that BDNF protects neurons from degeneration due to the cascade of effects it has on other proteins and e nzymes when it is released. Earlier in the year I was contacted by a secondary school as they were concerned about one of their students, 14 year old Tom* (*not his real name). Tom was physically and verbally abusive at both home and school, and was displaying disturbing behaviours. Tom had high absentees and was fixated with electronic devices, regularly accessing inappropriate websites. Recently Tom’s cat was found dead with a broken neck and covered in blood. Tom’s version of the story was that he tripped over the cat and fell on it. The school were seeking advice on how to help Tom. Previous to the visit I read Tom’s medical reports. Adolescence is a time of emotional, cognitive and physical development as the adole scent moves from being a child to an adult (Carr, Eshkevari Kosky, 1991). Erikson (1968) believed that adolescence is a time of identity crisis. As the adolescent moves from childhood to adulthood they experiment with different identities until they form an identity which is their true self. This is known as identity formation (Becht, Branje, Denissen, Koot, Meeus, Nelemans Vollebergh, 2016). Adolescents require a secure attachment and a safe family unit (or equivalent) in order to work through the turmoil of adolescence. The journey of self-identity is based on who the adolescent was in the past and the present. If the adolescent had a secure attachment in the past, they are able to move from identity crisis to identity formation in the present and develop into a health adult. However, if the past had no loving or safe environment for the adolescent, the adolescent has no one in the present to help them set limits or give directions (Markland Nelson, 1994). This appeared to be the case with Tom. As Tom’s mother is mentally ill, it would be safe to assume Tom’s needs are not currently met, nor were they met in the past. Maladaptive parenting affects a child’s coping mechanism, trust and self-worth (Markland Nelson, 1994). By evening, the exteriormost reaches of Dr. Darell’s personality, the ones that made immediate contact with other people had solidified once more. He had refused to eat his evening meal and had, instead, with feverish insistence, returned to the inchwise advance into the intricate mathematics of encephalographic analysis. It was not till nearly midnight, that he entered the living room again. Pelleas Anthor was still there, twiddling at the controls of the video. The footsteps behind him caused him to glance over his shoulder. â€Å"Hi. Aren’t you in bed yet? I’ve been spending hours on the video, trying to get something other than bulletins. It seems the F.S. But in doing so, she also, you realize, made it impossible ever to tell whether Mis really did know the location. After all, no one else has ever been able to deduce the truth from those records.† â€Å"Ebling Mis, if you’ll remember, was working under the driving impetus of the Mule’s mind.† â€Å"I know that, too, but Mis’ mind was, by that very token, in an abnormal state. Do you and I know anything about the properties of a mind under the emotional control of another; about its abilities and shortcomings? In any case, I will not go to Trantor.† Anthor frowned, â€Å"Well, why the vehemence? I merely suggested it as – well, by Space, I don’t understand you. You look ten years older. This despite the fact that Arcadia was searched for with every appearance of diligence.† â€Å"But what is your conclusion from all this torrent of ill-connection?† â€Å"That Arcadia’s escape was arranged.† â€Å"As I said.† â€Å"With this addition. That Arcadia must have known it was arranged; that Arcadia, the bright little girl who saw cabals everywhere, saw this one and followed your own type of reasoning. They wanted her to return to the Foundation, and so she went to Trantor, instead. But why Trantor?† â€Å"Well, why?† â€Å"Because that is where Bayta, her idolized grandmother, escaped when she was in flight. Consciously or unconsciously, Arcadia imitated that. I wonder, then, if Arcadia was fleeing the same enemy.† â€Å"The Mule?† asked Darell with polite sarcasm. â€Å"Of course not. I mean, by the enemy, a mentality that she could not fight.
